Adjacent to the old railroad station and switch yards at Smiths Falls, this project started with a program for a 875sf residence with carport, designed to meet or exceed the R2000 standard. The design developed from a rectangular plan with a split mono-pitch roof, to a pitched roof aligned with the rectangle’s diagonal. Galvalume cladding, exposed steel sections, rain chains and exterior shutters counter-weighted over pulleys all express the industrial language of the bygone era of the railroad.
