One of the projects that left a deep impression on me in terms of building form (so cosy) and efficient/mass-produced methods for passive-solar and earth-sheltered ecological architecture. I was asked by ArchiNova GmbH to model R2000 (Canada) airtightness detailing and HRV technology to the next generation of this off-grid and carbon-neutral tract housing in 1997, using the energy modelling platform by NRC, Hot2000. This project featured a glulam structure, green-roof, masonry ground floors with cool-storage cellar, biodiesel cogen plant, integral PV and SDHW and a central Clivus-Multrum composting toilet. Design & Photos by by Juergen Kärstens, Architekt for ArchiNova GmbH. R2000 MEP/HVAC concept, energy modelling, physical model by Andy Thomson.
