Where the whole eco-prefab oddysey began back in 1994 – these tiny backyard houses, some no larger than a garden shed, that would provide all the comfort of a tiny, heated bedroom with micro-kitchen and potty.  I imagined that houses should provide all of the vital physiological functions and would connect our own bodies to the larger environment. The separation from the ground is intentional – to demonstrate the relative autonomy of the home from any kind of larger/urban metabolism. These homes were all designed to be off-the-grid. The conceptual design led eventually to a gallery show at the DeLeon White Gallery in Toronto, and that concept eventually was executed near Stuttgart, Germany in ‘das minimalhaus’ project.
